Screen Printing - The Most Recent Addition to the Cherokee Graphic Design Family!

Screen Printing is also referred to as "serigraphy" or "silk screen" printing, however since screens are now typically created using man made materials such as nylon or polyester rather than silk, the "screen printing" name is most commonly used.

According to one source, the earliest screen printing techniques date to 1500 BC in Fiji, where designs were created with banana leaves, through which vegetable dyes were then forced through onto handmade cloth [p.11]. There have been many advancements made to the process through the centuries and in many different countries, but the basic premise is the same: a stencil is created using a tightly stretched screen, which allows ink to flow through onto the garment. The ink is then cured, allowing a long lasting and durable design.

We are proud to now offer up to 4 color screen printing in addition to our thermal transfer service. Unsure which is right for you? Click »here for a comparision of the two services.
